Mission:
The mission of Ventura High School is to develop highly educated, well rounded students. This mission is accomplished by providing all students with quality educational opportunities, engaging their aspirations and abilities, nurturing innovation, creativity, and collaboration. Outcomes (CEOs) emphasize the importance of students that are effective and ethical communicators, critical thinkers, active and collaborate community members, and reflective and self-aware decision makers.
Faculty:
Ventura High School has approximately 100 faculty members from around the country, 90% of whom hold advanced degrees.
Approximately 35% of our staff is comprised of VHS alumni.
Curriculum:
These AP courses (23) are offered: English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, European History, US History, Economics, US Government & Politics, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Pre Calculus, Physics, Calculus AB & BC, AP Statistics, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, Spanish Literature and Culture, Spanish Language, Art History, and Studio Art: 2D Design, 3D Design and Drawing. AP is an open enrollment program.
Honors Classes (20) are offered in English 9, English 10, World History, Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Biology with Earth Science Topics, Environmental Field Studies, Medical Health Careers Anatomy & Physiology, Choreography, Robotics, Chemistry,
Physiology, Medical Technology, French 3, French 4, Italian 4, Spanish for Native Speakers 5, Wind Ensemble II, and String Ensemble II.
These Career Technical Pathways are offered: Agricultural and Natural Resources, Environmental Resources, Food Service and Hospitality, Machining and Forming Technologies, Health Science and Medical Technology, Software Systems Development and Systems, Transportation (Diagnostics, Service and Repair), and Building Construction and Trades.
The Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program at Ventura High School prepares students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is an elective course in which students receive direct study skills instruction and tutorial support, are exposed to motivational activities, attend college tours, and take rigorous courses within their schedule. The AVID program has an astounding success rate with an average of over 98% of students enrolling in postsecondary institutions. AVID satisfies the practical art graduation requirement.
